MUSS football

Offense: When the Utes are playing offense, The MUSS is very quiet! We want our team to focus on the game and not be distracted.

Defense: When the Utes are playing defense, be as loud as possible!!!!! We want to confuse the opposing team and make their members lose concentration.

3rd Down Jump: When the opposing team is on a third down, The MUSS jumps around and makes as much noise as possible. The goal is to make the opposing team false start multiple times throughout the game!

1st Down Chant: When the Utes make a first down, all MUSS members raise their hands in unison and yell “First down!” When yelling “First down,” point your arm in the direction of the first down, mimicking the action of the referee.

U chop: When the band plays a distinct percussion song, all MUSS members form a "U" with their hands and “chop” along with the music. To form the U, bend your middle and ring fingers and hold them with your thumb. Your pointer finger and pinkie finger should still be straight.

False Start Tally: Whenever the opposing team receives a false start penalty The MUSS will hang a “five” in front of the student section indicating the five-yard penalty. There will be a running total for the entire season and a line of “fives” will be in front of The MUSS section.

MUSS Tailgates: Before every home football game, The MUSS holds a tailgate on the field just north of the Eccles Tennis Center (located on Guardsman Way). Free food is provided to all MUSS members. There is a raffle at every tailgate for two sideline passes. The winners of these passes get to stand on the sidelines during an entire football game.

Singing “Utah Man:” After the Utes score a touchdown or a field goal, the band will play the school fight song, “Utah Man.” All MUSS members need to sing along!!

MUSS/Player Interaction: After the game is over, the players and coaches will gather in front of The MUSS and sing the school fight song, “Utah Man.” The players will also come over to high-five MUSS members after the game before heading to the locker room.

MUSS basketball

Throw Up your U: When Utah is making a free throw, you place your thumbs together and extend both pointer fingers—this makes the shape of a U.

When a free throw is made: "Stomp, stomp, clap, clap" and chant "Utes"

3-Point Jump" When the Utes make a 3-point shot jump and yell until the Utes get the ball back.

UTAH MAN

Verse: I am a Utah man/fan, sir, and I live across the green. Our gang, it is the jolliest that you have ever seen. Our students are the finest and each one’s a shining star. Our yell, you hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.

Chorus: Who am I, sir? A Utah Man/Fan am I. A Utah Man/Fan, sir, and will be ’til I die; Ki-yi!

Verse: We’re up to snuff; we never bluff, we’re game for any fuss, no other band of college fans dare meet us in the muss. So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky, we’ll fight for dear old Crimson, for a Utah Man am I.

GO UTES!

Verse: (Usually not sung at games) And when we prom the avenue, all lined up in a row, and arm in arm and step in time as down the street we go. No matter if a freshman green, or in a senior’s gown, the people all admit we are the warmest gang in town.

Chorus

Verse: We may not live forever on this jolly good old sphere, but while we do we’ll live a life of merriment and cheer. And when our college days are o’er and night is drawing nigh, with parting breath we’ll sing that song: “A Utah Man Am I.”

GO UTES!
