The Alumni Association recognizes outstanding chapters and individual alumni with annual awards. These chapters must display excellence overall but also specifically in the quality of their programming, scholarship fundraising, and member participation. 

Chapter Volunteer Award

The Volunteer Award recognizes a chapter volunteer, regardless of his/her official connection to Utah, who has contributed time and service to the alumni chapter program and the Alumni Association over a significant period of time.

Nominations should be submitted by May 1 each year. Please note that you must include a list of the nominee's chapter-related accomplishments. Nomination submissions may also be emailed as an attachment to

Selection Criteria:

  • Consideration is given to the nominee's contributions in one or more of these ways:
  • serving as an officer in a local club
  • contributing time and effort to a local club
  • being a current University of Utah Alumni Association member

Individual Chapter Awards

Red Status – Red Status Chapters will receive $500 toward their chapter funds for the upcoming year. The year for Red recognition begins July 1 and ends June 30, with recognition provided the following year.

  • Annual requirements: 12 activities or services with at least one in each of the activity areas listed below.

White Status – White Status Chapters will receive $250 toward their chapter funds for the upcoming year. The year for White recognition begins July 1 and ends June 30, with recognition provided the following year.

  • Annual requirements: Six activities or services with at least one in four of the six activity areas listed below

Red and White "Activity" Areas

Student Programs
Examples: Student recruitment fairs, or picnics for new freshmen and returning students from the local area

Community Service
Examples: Community service day, blood drive, chapter volunteer at a local food bank

Chapter Spirit
Examples: Submit a chapter success story idea for possible publication in the Alumni Association's monthly e-newsletter, Alumni Connection; nominate a member of your chapter for an Alumni Association award; send a news release to a local paper about scholarship winners

Examples: Award scholarships to local student(s) attending the U, host an event to raise scholarship money

Chapter Service (chapter members)
Examples: Plan a networking luncheon or social hour, host a Pac-12 networking event

School Spirit
Examples: Game watch parties, annual summer picnic, group outing when Utah athletic teams are competing in the chapter area, have a prominent alumnus speak at a chapter event.
