U Farmers market anniversary
The U Farmers Market kicked off its 10th season in late August and continues Thursdays through Oct. 5. Begun as a way to bring fresh, local food to campus, the market is a staple of the fall semester.
U health care top ranking
University of Utah Hospital was rated No. 1 in Utah in U.S. News & World Report’s 2017-18 Best Hospital Rankings. The university’s Huntsman Cancer Institute was ranked number 38 in the country for cancer care, while the U’s Ear, Nose, and Throat specialty ranked 18th nationwide.
New ARUP CEO and president
Longtime ARUP Laboratories administrators Dr. Sherrie Perkins and Andrew Theurer BS’87 took on new responsibilities in August as CEO and president, respectively, of ARUP, a nonprofit enterprise of the University of Utah.
Campus tobacco-free in 2018
Officially enforced starting next summer, faculty and students will be prohibited from smoking or using chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes, and other nicotine products.
Five new Board of Trustees members
The University of Utah’s 10-member board of trustees welcomed five new members July 1. In addition to the regular rotation of the Alumni board and student body presidents, the new trustees are David Parkin, Katie Eccles, and Anne-Marie Wright Lampropoulos
Record number of students living on campus
With 3,500 first-year students living on campus this fall, the U hopes to foster community and encourage students to get engaged with their university experience.
