New dean of Fine Arts
John W. Scheib, former director of the School of Music at University of Kentucky, has been appointed the new dean of the College of Fine Arts.
Beckerle named to American Philosophical Society
Mary Beckerle, CEO and director of the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, has been inducted into the respected society, joining a group that includes former President Barack Obama.
NBA Drafts a Ute
Kyle Kuzma has been taken in the 2017 NBA Draft, making Utah the only school from the Pac-12 to have had at least one player selected in the draft the past three seasons.
Outstanding new advisor
Ashley Glenn, academic advisor in International and Area Studies, has received the Outstanding New Advisor Award from The Global Network for Academic Advising.
Softball player honored
Hannah Flippen was named a First Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She becomes the first three-time All-America selection in program history.
Distinguished leader in College of Health
David H. Perrin, dean of the College of Health, has been selected to receive the American Kinesiology Association’s 2017 Distinguished Leadership Award.
Law student honored
Law student Liz Thomas was honored with  the Pro Bono Publico Award for her outstanding commitment to volunteer legal services for disadvantaged populations.
All-Pac pitcher
Miranda Viramontes, a pitcher for the University of Utah women’s softball team, was named All-Pac 12 Conference for the 2017 season.
