U professor is Utah Poet Laureate
Paisley Rekdal, professor of English at the University of Utah, has been named Utah Poet Laureate by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums.
Record eighth first-round draft pick from the U
Utah football's Garett Bolles was drafted No. 20 overall by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Three professors named to distinguished academy
Bradley R. Cairns (oncological sciences), Dana Carroll (biochemistry; pictured), and Christopher D. Hacon (mathematics) have been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
KUER wins Murrow award
Whittney Evans of KUER, the U's NPR affiliate, received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Feature Reporting, in competition with public and commercial media in Denver, Phoenix, and elsewhere.

New head of  information security
Randall "Randy" J. Arvay, formerly chief of information security at Mississippi Medical Center, has been hired as the U's new chief information security officer. He began his new position May 22.
Fulbright scholars chosen
U students Elizabeth Gamarra (pictured) and Alison Shimko have received highly competitive Fulbright grants for the 2017-18 academic year, allowing both to teach English in Spain.
